What we would tell you in the studio

  • Henley collar detail. The round crew neckline features a buttoned placket that stays closed across the chest. It frames the collarbone neatly while the roomy shoulders let the long sleeves drop without pulling.
  • Roomy wide trousers. We cut the trousers loose through the leg so the knit falls straight from the waist. Inset side pockets sit flat against the hip without breaking the line of the fabric.
  • Dyed matching yarn. Knitting both halves in the same rich brown dye lot keeps the colour uniform from top to hem. The surface carries a subtle natural texture that softens as you wear and wash it.
  • Care and shape. Wash on a gentle cycle in cold water and reshape both pieces by hand before drying flat. Storing the top folded keeps the shoulder line from stretching over time.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
