What we would tell you in the studio

  • Cotton blend yarn. The knit balances cotton with acrylic for a smooth hand that feels light against bare skin. It holds its shape through a full day of sitting without stretching out at the seat or knees.
  • Straight wide trousers. We knit the pants with a generous width through the leg, falling to an ankle length hem. An elastic waist keeps the top anchored without bunching under the pullover.
  • Striped crew sweater. The top uses a classic crew neckline and long straight sleeves. Its hem rests over the waistband, keeping the lines clean when worn together or split up with plain denim.
  • Washing and drying. Hand wash in cool water or use a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Press the water out gently with a towel and dry both pieces flat to preserve the length.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
