What we would tell you in the studio
- Chunky white gauge. We use a thick yarn knitted in an open, textured stitch. The white shade shows off the stitch definition clearly across the shoulders and front panels.
- Cropped boxy cut. The body is cut wide through the chest and drops straight down to a shortened hem. It sits off the waist rather than clinging, leaving plenty of room for underlayers.
- Buttons and crew neck. A classic round crew neckline leads into a full button placket down the center. The front buttons fasten securely, allowing you to wear the knit closed as a top or unbuttoned.
- Care and drying. Hand wash in cool water with a mild knitwear soap to protect the textured stitch. Press the water out gently with a towel and dry flat so the heavy knit keeps its shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
