What we would tell you in the studio
- Roomy tunic cut. The body hangs away from the torso and finishes long, landing low on the leg. It gives you plenty of space through the chest and waist without pulling tight across your back.
- Brushed yarn hand. We used a medium-weight yarn with a brushed finish that stays soft against bare skin. The knit carries gentle crosswise stretch, so the sweater moves with you and settles back into shape.
- Ribbed neck and cuffs. A simple round crewneck sits flat against the collarbone. Wide ribbing finishes the collar, wrists, and lower edge, giving the cuffs enough grip to hold when you push your sleeves up.
- Washing and drying. Hand wash in cold water with a gentle detergent and press out excess moisture between towels. Lay the sweater flat to dry away from direct heat to protect the fuzzy yarn texture.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
