What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck and buttons. The top closes with a row of gold buttons running up to a bound crew neck. Contrast rib lines the front placket, cuffs, and bottom hem, giving the cropped shape clean edges that stay flat against the body.
  • Straight trouser cut. We knit the pants with a straight line through the thigh and hem. Contrast binding runs down each outer leg seam to mirror the trim on the top, while the knit keeps enough weight to drop cleanly without bunching.
  • Smooth yarn hand. The fine gauge yarn sits cool and soft directly on bare skin. It holds its recovery throughout the day, so the knees and elbows do not bag out after hours of sitting.
  • Washing and drying. Hand wash both pieces together in cold water so the black yarns remain matched. Lay them flat on a towel to dry, which protects the button placket and keeps the trouser legs from stretching out.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
