What we would tell you in the studio
- Ribbed body and drape. The vertical ribbing gives the knit natural stretch across the shoulders while keeping a roomy drape through the waist and hips. It hangs straight down without clinging, so you can wear it alone or as a winter base.
- High turtleneck. The neck is knitted tall and folds down or gathers softly against the skin. It stays upright under heavy wool coats and cardigans, sealing in warmth without choking.
- Long straight sleeves. We knit the sleeves long to cover the wrists, finishing them with a subtle self-cuff that stays put under outer layers. The knit flexes easily through the elbows during daily movement.
- Washing and shape care. Hand wash this knit in cool water with a mild detergent and lay it flat on a dry towel to dry. Hanging a wet ribbed sweater can pull the yarn out of shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
