What we would tell you in the studio
- Ribbed turtleneck collar. The neck stands tall against the throat in a self-start rib. It stays upright without folding over tight, keeping cold air off your collarbone while leaving room to move your head.
- Roomy body cut. Instead of pulling tight, the torso hangs straight down to the hip line. The vertical ribs expand when you move and draw back in when you stand, keeping the fabric off your middle.
- Long straight sleeves. The sleeves run straight down the arm to finish in neat ribbed wrists. You can push them up your forearm to stay put or pull them down over your hands inside a heavy coat.
- Washing and shape care. Machine wash cold inside a mesh laundry bag on the gentle cycle, or wash by hand. Press water out with a towel and lay the knit flat to dry so the ribbing keeps its vertical line.

- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
