We knit this sleeveless piece in an open crochet pattern using a soft cotton and acrylic yarn. The front secures with slim knit ties, letting the body hang loose and open down to the hip. It serves as a light warm-weather layer over swimwear, linen trousers, or denim.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Open crochet stitch. The crochet construction leaves visible gaps throughout the body for constant airflow. It gives the vest a light, airy weight that stays soft against bare skin on warm days.
- Front tie closure. Two self-yarn ties fasten the deep V-neckline down the center front. You can knot them loose to leave the front open or tie them close to hold the shape.
- Roomy sleeveless cut. We dropped the armholes low so the vest layers over swimwear and tank tops without bunching. The body falls straight and loose, landing right around the hip.
- Hand wash care. To protect the open crochet loops from snagging, wash this piece by hand in cool water. Press the water out gently and lay it flat on a dry towel.

Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
