We knit this sleeveless vest with an open crochet stitch that lets air pass through freely. The deep V-neckline meets at two front ties, giving you control over how open the front rests. It hangs away from the torso and finishes near the hip.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Open crochet stitch. We work this piece in an open-mesh crochet knit using a cotton and acrylic blend yarn. The structure creates visible openings throughout the body, leaving the fabric light and pliable.
- Adjustable tie front. Two knitted ties fasten the front below the open V-neck. You can tie them loose to leave the front slightly parted over swimwear or knot them closer over a lightweight base layer.
- Sleeveless straight cut. The body falls straight from dropped shoulder seams down to the hip without clinging. Wide armholes give your shoulders full clearance, so the vest rests flat against underlayers without bunching.
- Care for open knits. Hand wash this piece in cold water using a mild wool wash or detergent. Press the excess water out in a dry towel and lay it flat to dry to keep the open stitches from stretching.

Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
