What we would tell you in the studio
- Wide leg cut. The legs drop straight and loose from the waistband down to the hem. This gives the fabric room to swing as you walk, without clinging to the knee or calf.
- Waistband and pockets. We built the waist with an internal elastic core and a zipper closure. The side pockets are inset deep enough to hold small essentials without pushing out the silhouette.
- Smooth stretch knit. The yarn blend gives four-way stretch that recovers its shape across hours of sitting. It resists creasing, which makes it practical for packing into a weekend bag.
- Wash and dry. Machine wash in cold water on a gentle cycle. Tumble dry on low heat or lay the trousers flat on a drying rack to keep the leg line neat.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
