What we would tell you in the studio
- Brushed surface. The knit is light and brushed across the face for a soft feel against bare skin. A touch of stretch helps the fabric keep its shape through repeated wear.
- Clean crew neck. The round collar sits flat and closes with a full front button placket. Fasten it fully for a neat finish, or leave the buttons undone so the front panels hang straight.
- Roomy drape. We gave this a loose cut that falls away from the torso rather than hugging it. The lightweight knit hangs cleanly without adding bulk over tees, camisoles, or woven shirts.
- Cold water care. Wash by hand or on a gentle cold cycle to protect the brushed finish. Lay the piece flat on a towel to dry so the knit does not stretch out along the hem.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
