What we would tell you in the studio

  • Double layer mock neck. The collar stands straight up off the shoulder line to cover the neck without folding over. It holds its upright structure throughout the day while leaving enough room to turn your head comfortably.
  • Roomy straight body. We shaped the body with dropped shoulders and a wide chest that falls straight down. The fabric hangs clear of the torso, giving you plenty of space underneath for a base tee or tank.
  • Shorter baseline hem. The hem finishes higher on the hip rather than pulling down past the seat. This shorter proportion works neatly alongside high-waisted denim or knit trousers without requiring you to tuck the fabric in.
  • Washing and shape care. Hand wash this knit in cold water to keep the grey surface smooth and resist pilling. Press out the excess water gently in a clean towel and lay it flat to dry instead of hanging.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
