What we would tell you in the studio
- Folded open neckline. The wide neckband folds over itself and stays where you place it. You can wear it straight across both shoulders or pull one side down. The ribbed fold gives the edge enough weight to rest flat against the chest.
- Roomy body cut. We shaped the torso with plenty of ease so the fabric drops straight from the chest without pulling tight. It hangs away from the waist and clears the hips easily, pairing cleanly over denim trousers, tailored bottoms or a slip skirt.
- Long tapered sleeves. The sleeves start wide at the shoulder drop and narrow gradually toward the ribbed cuffs. The knit holds close at the wrist, which keeps the excess length in place when you push the sleeves up your forearms.
- Care for folded knits. Hand wash in cold water with mild wool detergent to keep the rose taupe yarn soft. Press water out between clean towels instead of wringing. Lay flat to dry so the neckline and hem maintain their original shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
