What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck and straight hem. The top sits straight through the body without clinging or gathering at the waist. We finished the round neckline with self-fabric binding that keeps its shape after a full day of wear.
  • Drawcord waist and pockets. The trousers have an elasticated waistband threaded with a flat drawcord so you can adjust the rise. We set deep patch pockets into the front to hold small items without pulling the knit out of shape.
  • Full length leg. The trouser legs fall in a clean vertical line from the hip down to the ankle hem. The knit has enough weight to drop straight rather than bunch around the knees.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle to protect the fine yarn surface. Lay both pieces flat on a dry towel to dry so the sleeves and trouser legs do not stretch under their own wet weight.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
