What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew top and sleeves. The long sleeves run straight down to an unbanded wrist. We finished the neckline with a neat crew band that holds its circle without stretching out after a full day of wear.
  • Drawstring waistband and pockets. The trousers adjust through a functional drawstring threaded through a flat waist. Deep side pockets sit along the seam line so they lie flat against the hip when empty.
  • Straight trouser drape. The trouser legs fall in a clean vertical line from the hip down to the ankle. The light knit moves easily as you walk, without clinging to the knee or pooling heavily at the shoes.
  • Washing and care. Wash both pieces together in cold water on a gentle cycle so the greyblue tone fades at the same rate. Lay the knit flat to dry to keep the trouser legs from stretching lengthwise.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
