What we would tell you in the studio
- Crew neck and stripe gauge. We knit the round crewneck with narrow trim so it rests flat against the collarbone. The alternating black and white bands maintain their alignment right up through the shoulders and down the arms.
- Close cut with cropped hem. The body follows a straight, close line from the underarms down to a cropped bottom edge. A banded rib hem keeps the bottom anchored instead of curling upward during movement.
- Sleeve shape and ribbed cuffs. The full-length sleeves fit neatly along the arm without excess bulk under a coat. Ribbing at the wrists holds the cuffs in place when pushed up the forearm.
- Washing and yarn care. Hand wash this knit in cold water on a gentle cycle to protect the two-tone yarn. Dry it flat on a towel away from direct heat to retain the original cropped shape.

Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
