What we would tell you in the studio
- Roomy longline cut. The body is cut straight and roomy, falling freely past the knee down toward the ankle. It hangs without clinging, letting air move freely while giving you a clean, extended line from shoulder to hem.
- Shaped neck and placket. A wide V-neckline leads into a ribbed front placket that keeps the opening neat. Fine ribbing borders the edges to steady the structure so the front panels hang straight when worn open.
- Lightweight yarn hand. We use a lightweight synthetic yarn blend that stays soft against bare skin. The knit is thin enough to pack down small in a bag, yet dense enough to ward off an indoor chill.
- Washing and flat drying. Hand wash in cold water or use a gentle dry-cleaning cycle to preserve the fiber tension. Never run it through a tumble dryer. Instead, press out excess water and lay it flat on a clean towel to dry.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
