What we would tell you in the studio
- Open neckline and placket. The shaped open neck drops into a neat vertical front with ribbing along the edge. It leaves the collarbone bare and lies flat over base layers.
- Short sleeve cut. The short sleeves are cut wide at the armhole to keep the shoulder line soft. They sit clean over bare arms or fine woven shirts without bunching.
- Longline hem drape. The hem drops past the knee with enough weight in the yarn to pull the fabric straight down. It stays open and moves easily as you walk.
- Hand wash care. Wash by hand in cold water and press the water out with a towel instead of wringing. Lay it flat on a drying rack so the long knit does not stretch.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
