What we would tell you in the studio
- Open neckline and gathers. The wide neckline frames the collarbone without pulling tight. Soft pleating down the front gives the chest room and creates a relaxed drape through the torso.
- Banded lower hem. A wide rib band secures the bottom edge around the hips. It holds the hem in place so the excess fabric blouses softly above it without needing to be tucked.
- Long straight sleeves. The sleeves run full length down to clean cuffs. The lightweight yarn keeps them easy to push up the forearm when you want a shorter look during the day.
- Yarn and wash care. We dyed this batch in a clear blue shade. Wash on a gentle cold cycle inside out and lay the knit flat on a dry towel to preserve the front gathers.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
