What we would tell you in the studio

  • Fine rib knit. The yarn is worked into a lightweight rib with built-in stretch. It holds its vertical lines without clinging tight, giving the fabric a soft, smooth hand that keeps its shape across a full day of movement.
  • V-neck and crop. The pullover opens into a clean V at the throat and falls to a short hem. Because the body is cut roomy, the knit hangs loose over the waistband instead of bunching up around the hips.
  • Wide-leg trouser. We shaped the trousers with an elastic band and an adjustable tie at the waist. The legs drop straight and wide to the hem, finished with two inset side pockets that lie flat against the ribbing.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash the set in cold water on a gentle cycle to protect the rib structure. Tumble dry on low heat or lay the pieces flat so the knit dries without stretching out of proportion.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
