What we would tell you in the studio
- Roomy boxy cut. The body is cut wide and loose, hanging straight down without clinging. Dropped shoulders create a relaxed line through the upper body, giving you space to wear a base layer or light shirt underneath.
- Ribbed neck and trims. We framed the piece with wide ribbing along the collar, cuffs, and bottom hem. The turtleneck holds its shape around the neck without feeling tight, while the deep cuff ribbing gathers the long sleeves neatly.
- Smooth midweight knit. Knit from a blended yarn with a smooth, soft surface that feels comfortable directly against the skin. The fabric has an easy stretch that moves with you and settles back into shape as you wear it.
- Gentle knitwear care. Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent, or use a gentle machine cycle. Reshape the damp sweater and lay it flat on a towel to dry so the ribbed edges and shoulder seams do not stretch out.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
