What we would tell you in the studio

  • Rayon linen blend. We chose a yarn that mixes rayon with linen to keep the knit lightweight and pliable. It has none of the scratchiness of raw linen, drying quickly and staying comfortable in warmer air.
  • Pleated peplum hem. Vertical chest pleats give way to a wider pleated flare below the waist. The construction adds volume through the lower tier without adding weight to the shoulder or chest.
  • Neckline and armholes. A classic crew neck sits flat against the collarbone. The cut runs straight through the torso with tailored armholes designed to sit close without pulling tight.
  • Care and maintenance. Wash this knit in cold water on a gentle cycle, using a mesh bag to protect the pleats. Lay it flat on a dry towel so the flared hem holds its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
