Crochet Tops for Women Summer Vacation Beach Outfits

We knit this sleeveless piece with an open, hollowed crochet stitch that lets air pass right through. The V-neck sits low and broad on the chest, while the roomy body drops straight down to the hip line. It layers over swimwear or a simple under-tank without clinging.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Open crochet knit. The open-work knit pattern creates a light, vented grid across the body. Spun from a cotton and acrylic blend yarn, the stitches hold their shape while remaining soft against bare skin.
  • V-neck and sleeveless cut. Wide shoulder straps frame an open V-neckline that rests low and easy. The sleeveless armholes are cut deep enough to allow clear movement without catching on base layers underneath.
  • Roomy hip length hem. We shaped the body with a straight, generous drop that hangs away from the waist. The knit hem finishes at the hip, giving it enough weight to stay settled without pulling or binding.
  • Care and maintenance. Wash this open knit inside a mesh laundry bag on a gentle, cold cycle to protect the crochet loops. Lay the piece flat on a clean towel to dry so the stitches keep their form.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
