We knit these trousers with a wide, straight drop from the hip down through the leg. The stretch fabric gives as you sit or walk, while the waist uses an elastic band with a zipper and button closure. Apricot yarn brings a warm, pale neutral tone to the clean shape.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Wide leg cut. The leg falls straight from the upper thigh to a broad hem. It sits away from the skin throughout the full length, giving the fabric room to drape and swing naturally as you move.
  • Waistband and closure. We built an elastic section into the waist to allow natural give across the day. A clean front button and zipper fly hold the top flat, flanked by two deep side pockets.
  • Apricot stretch yarn. The blended yarn incorporates built-in stretch so the material recovers after long hours of sitting. It resists wrinkles and holds a smooth, even surface in this light apricot shade.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colours. Tumble dry on low heat or hang on a line to dry. A cool iron smooths the cloth if needed.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
