We knit these trousers with a wide leg cut that falls straight from the hip down to the shoe. The elastic waist pulls on without hardware, leaving the front flat. A pressed center crease gives the legs vertical structure, while the navy blue yarn holds its shape without creasing during long periods of sitting.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Wide leg cut. The legs hang wide and loose from the waistband down to the hem. That open cut lets the fabric drop straight, keeping the profile clean whether you stand or walk.
  • Flat elastic waist. We built the waistband as a clean pull-on band without buttons, zips, or belt loops. It sits flat against the lower torso and stays secure without pinching.
  • Center leg crease. A permanent vertical crease runs down the front of each leg. This ridge adds tailored definition to the knitted fabric and keeps the drape sharp through full days of wear.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash in cold water using a mesh laundry bag to protect the knit surface from snagging. Tumble dry on a low heat setting, or lay the trousers flat across a rack.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
