We shaped these black trousers with a wide, straight leg that drops clean from an elastic waistband. The knit incorporates stretch so the fabric recovers after long hours sitting down. What we would tell you in the studio

  • Elastic waist construction. The waistband pulls on without hardware, sitting flat across the front. An interior elastic band keeps the top anchored without bunching, while faux welt pockets finish the back without adding thickness.
  • Wide straight leg. The cut stays roomy through the thigh and falls straight to the hem. Center creases run down each leg, giving structure to the fluid drape as you move.
  • Wrinkle resistant yarn. We chose a smooth blend with built-in stretch that holds its shape through a full day of wear. The knit resists creasing and maintains a clean surface between washes.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash cold inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the flat surface of the knit. Tumble dry on low heat or lay flat to preserve the waist recovery and crease line.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
