What we would tell you in the studio
- Wide leg drape. The leg runs straight and wide from the hip down to the floor. Because the knit is light and fluid, the fabric moves easily as you walk without bunching at the knee.
- High elastic waist. We built the waistband with a broad elastic band that stays in place without pinching. It stretches over the hips easily and settles comfortably high on the waist.
- Deep side pockets. Two inset pockets sit along the side seams. We stitched them flat into the interior so they carry small items without pulling the outer line of the trousers out of shape.
- Care and washing. Machine wash on a gentle cycle in cold water and lay flat to dry. The stretch knit retains its pattern and shape over repeated wash cycles without losing its recovery.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
