What we would tell you in the studio

  • Open crochet gauge. The openwork stitch creates a light grid that lets air through freely. It has a dry hand from the cotton blend, holding its square shape without feeling stiff or heavy on warm days.
  • V-neck and arms. We finished the V-neckline and armholes with clean, bound edges to keep the open stitches from stretching out. The wide shoulders sit flat without digging or pulling under movement.
  • Straight hip hem. The body falls straight from the underarms to a clean hem near the hip. Because the cut does not taper, it moves independently over swimsuits, camisoles, or high-waisted linen trousers.
  • Care and drying. Wash this open knit in a mesh bag on a gentle cycle with cold water. Lay it flat across a drying rack to keep the crochet loops from stretching out of shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
