Crochet Tops for Women Summer Vacation Beach Outfits

We knit this sleeveless piece using an open crochet stitch that lets air pass through freely. The deep V-neck sits broad on the collarbone, while the body falls away from the torso to land around the hip. Solid black yarn gives the grid pattern clean graphic lines over swimsuits or base layers.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Open crochet stitch. A wide open-work stitch gives the body a perforated texture that moves easily. The yarn holds its shape across the grid, keeping the open holes square and defined rather than sagging over the course of the day.
  • Deep V-neckline. The front drops into an open V-neck bordered by bound crochet edges that do not roll or curl. It leaves the shoulders bare with wide tank straps that stay anchored in place without digging into the skin.
  • Roomy hip hem. We cut the body with plenty of ease through the waist. The knit hangs straight down to the hip line, sitting loose over shorts, trousers, or swimwear rather than clinging to the hips or pulling tight.
  • Cold wash and flat dry. Hand wash this knit in cold water or run it on a gentle cycle inside a mesh laundry bag. Squeeze out excess moisture without wringing the open stitches, then lay it flat on a towel to air dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
