We shaped this winter coat with a straight fall that drops past the knee. The wool blend fabric holds its structure against cold wind while remaining soft to the touch. A double breasted front and clean notch lapels give the chest a classic line.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Double breasted front. The buttons close across the chest in a classic double breasted layout beneath wide notch lapels. This overlaps the fabric securely to block out chilly drafts during cold walks.
  • Long straight cut. The body falls straight from the shoulders down to the lower calves. It leaves room underneath for chunky pullovers and cardigans without pulling across the back or clinging at the hips.
  • Structured wool blend. We selected a dense wool blend yarn that gives the coat its crisp, upright shape without unnecessary bulk. The black fabric stays smooth and resists wrinkling through daily wear.
  • Care and maintenance. We recommend dry cleaning to preserve the coat shape and surface texture. You can also hand wash cold, lay flat to dry, and use a low steam iron to lift fold lines.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
