We knit this double breasted coat with a firm wool blend yarn that holds its shape against cold wind without adding bulk. The cut runs straight through the body, falling well past the knee toward the ankle. It layers over thick knit pullovers and tailored trousers alike.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Notch lapels and buttons. The double breasted front closes with solid buttons beneath wide notch lapels. Buttoned up, it blocks the breeze; unbuttoned, the front panels hang straight along the torso.
  • Straight long cut. The hem extends low toward the ankle to cover long cardigans and sweater dresses. The straight body gives ample room for heavy layers underneath without pulling at the seams.
  • Wool blend hand. We selected a dense wool blend yarn that gives the exterior a smooth, structured feel. It provides solid winter weight while remaining comfortable across a full day of movement.
  • Outerwear care. Dry cleaning is recommended to preserve the firm structure and clean lines of the lapels. You can steam iron on a low setting to smooth out any packing folds.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
