What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck and cut. The top hangs away from the torso in a loose drape. A plain round neck sits flat against the collarbone without binding, leaving space to layer a thin tank underneath if you want.
  • Three-quarter sleeve shape. We shaped the sleeves with extra volume through the arm and cut them to land below the elbow. The opening stays loose around the forearm instead of pulling tight, so air moves through easily.
  • Elastic waist trousers. The trousers share the same dye lot and yarn weight as the top. An elastic waistband sits comfortably on the hips, leading into straight legs that fall naturally over flat shoes or bare feet.
  • Wash and care. You can wash both pieces in a domestic machine on a cool cycle, or have them dry cleaned. Lay the knit flat on a towel to dry so the trousers and top keep their shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
