What we would tell you in the studio

  • Matching rib structure. We knit both pieces from the same black yarn lot to keep the texture and hand uniform. The vertical ribbing provides natural mechanical stretch, expanding across the body and recovering its shape as you move.
  • Top cut and collar. The top features a plain round crew neck that rests flat against the collarbone. It is built with a close fit through the body and long sleeves, finishing at a cropped hemline that meets high-rise waistbands.
  • Flared trouser shape. The trousers sit close through the waist and thighs before opening into a flared leg opening. Ribbing runs uninterrupted down the full length to weight the fabric, helping the hem hang straight around the ankles.
  • Hand wash care. Submerge both pieces in cool water using a gentle knit detergent, pressing out water without twisting the ribs. Lay flat on a clean towel to dry so the sleeves and trouser legs retain their original knitted length.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
