Women's Halter Tops Going Out Summer Racerback Date Night Outfits

We knit this halter top with a smooth surface hand and enough recovery to hold its lines through wear. The neck loops clean around the collar, leaving the shoulders open before narrowing into a racerback. In camel, the fine stitch definition shows clearly across the chest.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Halter and racerback cut. The neckline loops high around the throat, cutting inward over the collarbone to open up the shoulders. Across the reverse, the knit narrows between the shoulder blades into a racerback shape that stays flat against the skin.
  • Fine gauge knit. We work this top in a light gauge with balanced stretch yarn. The fabric feels cool to the touch and bends easily with motion without stretching out at the edges across hours of wear.
  • Layering and pairings. The clean profile sits close without excess bulk, so it layers smoothly underneath open button-down shirts, light linen jackets, or loose cardigans. It works equally well paired with high-waisted denim or fluid knit skirts.
  • Yarn care. Hand wash in cold water or use a gentle cycle with mild soap. Press out excess water between clean towels and lay the knit flat to dry so the neck loop and racerback straps maintain their original shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
