We knit this layer fine and light with a soft brushed surface. The body hangs away from your clothes without clinging, dropping past the hips down toward the knee. It packs down small into a bag and shakes out with minimal creasing when you need an extra layer indoors.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Brushed fine gauge yarn. The knit is light and soft to the touch with a subtle brushed face. It holds enough body to drape straight down the sides without bunching up or feeling heavy over a base layer.
- Roomy open front cut. We gave this a wide, straight body that rests open in the front. It falls loose over tees and button-down shirts, giving you plenty of room through the chest and waist as you move.
- Straight long sleeves. The sleeves are cut long with enough ease through the arms to slide over long-sleeve tops. They sit clean at the wrist without tight banding, so you can push them up when needed.
- Washing and drying flat. Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Lay the piece flat on a clean towel to dry rather than hanging it, which keeps the hemline straight and preserves the yarn texture.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
