What we would tell you in the studio
- Brushed yarn hand. The fine-gauge yarn has a light brushed finish across the face. It feels soft in the hand, packs down small into a bag, and resists hard creasing when folded.
- Open drape and cut. The body is cut wide so the front panels hang straight without clinging. It clears the waist easily and falls down toward the upper leg, giving plenty of room for underlayers.
- Sleeve and neckline. We shaped the neckline as a plain crew collar that sits flat against the collarbone. Long sleeves run down the arms with a gentle taper toward the wrists.
- Washing and care. Wash on a gentle cycle in cold water to protect the brushed finish. Reshape the damp cardigan by hand and lay it flat on a dry towel away from direct heat.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
