What we would tell you in the studio
- Crewneck and front buttons. The round crew collar is trimmed in fine ribbing that holds its circle. Small front buttons fasten all the way to the throat or sit undone over a base layer.
- Short sleeve proportion. We gave this a shorter sleeve length to make it an easy warm-weather layer. The sleeve opening is bound with light rib to keep the cuff lying flat.
- Cropped boxy cut. The body is cut wide and roomy, falling straight down to a cropped lower edge. It stays off the skin rather than clinging, giving you space through the torso.
- Yarn hand and care. The yarn is smooth and soft with no prickle. Machine wash cold inside a mesh laundry bag on the gentle cycle, then reshape the knit and dry it flat.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
