What we would tell you in the studio
- Wide leg drape. The leg runs straight from the hip down to an open hem. Because the fabric has weight, it moves freely around the ankles as you walk rather than bunching up.
- Elastic drawstring waist. We built the waistband with interior elastic and an external cord tie. It sits flat against the waist and holds its position through hours of sitting or walking.
- Side slip pockets. Two deep pockets sit along the side seams. They stay flat against the hip when empty and offer enough depth to hold a phone or small daily items.
- Cold water care. Wash these trousers on a cold cycle inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the linen blend yarn. Tumble dry on low heat or lay flat to dry to keep the grain straight.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
