What we would tell you in the studio

  • Open henley neck. The shallow v-neck drops into a functional button placket. You can unfasten the front buttons to widen the collar area or keep them closed to hold the neck closer.
  • Loose straight body. The body is cut wide and hangs straight down from the shoulders to the hip line. It leaves plenty of space around the middle, allowing cool air to move under the hem.
  • Light cotton hand. We worked this yarn from soft cotton for a light, dry hand against bare skin. The knit fabric carries a faint natural texture that packs down flat without creasing stiffly.
  • Cold wash care. Machine wash this piece in cold water using a gentle cycle and mild soap. Lay it flat across a mesh drying rack to dry, which protects the knit structure from stretching out.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
