We knit this top from a lightweight cotton yarn with a subtle crinkle texture across the surface. The body hangs loose and straight away from the torso, falling to a clean hip-level hem. A soft V-neck opens into a functional button front for easy layering.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Cotton yarn hand. The fine cotton knit feels dry and light against the skin. It carries a slight natural crinkle that keeps the fabric off the skin in warm weather without adding bulk under an outer jacket.
  • Neckline and placket. We finished the V-neck with a neat band and a classic henley button front. You can fasten it high or leave a few buttons undone over a simple tank.
  • Roomy cut. The body is cut wide and square, allowing the fabric to drape loosely without clinging at the waist. The hem sits flat at the hip to balance the generous width through the chest.
  • Washing and shape. Machine wash cold inside out using a gentle cycle, then lay the top flat on a dry towel. This keeps the crinkled cotton knit from stretching or twisting out of shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
