We knit this long-sleeve top in a light, soft yarn with a subtle textured hand. The body hangs loose from the shoulders down to the hip, leaving plenty of room through the waist. A buttoned v-neckline opens up the collarbone while the sleeves finish cleanly at the wrists.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • V-neck and button placket. The neckline dips into an open v-shape fastened with a small row of front buttons. You can unbutton the top for a broader opening or keep it closed to sit flat against the collarbone.
  • Roomy cut and drape. The body is cut wide so the fabric falls straight down without clinging to the torso. It gives the lightweight knit room to move and drape naturally while walking.
  • Sleeve and cuff finish. Long sleeves extend from slightly dropped armholes to pool softly at the wrists. The yarn is thin enough that you can push the sleeves up your forearms without building bulk.
  • Care and maintenance. Wash this piece on a gentle cycle in cold water with similar darks to protect the black dye. Reshape the body while damp and lay it flat to dry so the knit retains its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
