What we would tell you in the studio

  • Cotton blend texture. The yarn has a fine gauge with a slight crinkle across the face of the fabric. It stays soft to the touch and sits light enough to wear alone during warm days or layered under a jacket.
  • Henley button front. Small buttons secure the front placket beneath an open v-neck. You can fasten them up for higher collar coverage or leave a couple undone to match the open slope of the neckline.
  • Loose body line. The fabric drops straight and sits away from the torso rather than hugging in. It finishes around the hip with a clean edge that tucks cleanly into trousers or rests flat untucked.
  • Cold water washing. Wash this top in cold water on a gentle cycle to keep the textured knit from warping. Lay it flat across a drying rack so the weight of wet cotton does not stretch out the sleeves.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
