What we would tell you in the studio

  • Asymmetrical lapel neck. One side of the collar folds over like a jacket lapel, fastened visually with small buttons along the diagonal line. The open V-shape rests clear of the collarbone without pulling backward.
  • Straight torso and curved hem. The body knits down in a straight cut that hangs away from the waist. We finished the lower edge with a curved hemline that sits around the hip, rising slightly at the side seams.
  • Long sleeve construction. Set-in long sleeves follow the arm cleanly down to the wrist. The fine gauge knit holds its shape at the forearm when pushed up, making it easy to slip under a tailored jacket or heavy winter coat.
  • Yarn hand and care. Spun with rayon for weight and spandex for recovery, the knit has a cool, smooth surface against bare skin. Hand wash in cool water or use a gentle cycle with a mesh bag, then dry flat.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
