What we would tell you in the studio

  • Shoulder button detail. Small resin buttons line the top of each shoulder. They sit flat against the knit and break up the line between the round crewneck and the sleeve head.
  • Vertical rib structure. Fine gauge ribbing gives the body a gentle crosswise give while keeping its straight vertical drop. The fabric stays lightweight and slides under a jacket without bunching.
  • Cuff and hem finish. Matching rib bands finish the long sleeves and the bottom hem. The knit holds its width through the waist and rests naturally around the waistband of your trousers.
  • Washing and flat drying. Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle, inside a mesh bag to protect the shoulder buttons. Lay flat on a dry towel so the ribbing retains its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
