What we would tell you in the studio

  • Ribbed gauge. We knit this in a lightweight rib with built-in stretch that lets the fabric hang loose rather than grip. The fine vertical ribs run uninterrupted down the sleeves and through the trousers.
  • Crewneck and long sleeve. The top features a plain round crew neckline finished with a tidy bound edge. The long sleeves follow a relaxed line down to simple unbanded cuffs that rest naturally over the wrist.
  • Trouser length and cut. The matching trousers drop straight from the waist to land at the ankle. Because the knit carries gentle weight, the fabric drapes in clean vertical lines as you walk.
  • Washing and yarn care. Machine wash cold with similar dark colors and dry flat to keep the ribbed lines straight. A low tumble dry also works when you need the set ready again quickly.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
