What we would tell you in the studio

  • Mock neck band. The collar stands upright without folding over, sitting flush against the base of the neck. We knit it in the same vertical rib as the body to keep the line continuous from neck to hem.
  • Long close sleeves. Each sleeve follows the arm straight down to the wrist with an even tension. The fine ribbing gives them enough natural stretch to pull on smoothly without bagging at the elbows through a long evening.
  • Short straight hem. The hem is finished clean and lands well above the knee. Because the knit has high elasticity, the skirt stays close to the legs instead of flaring outward when you walk.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash this knit on a cold cycle to preserve the tension of the ribbing. Tumble dry on low heat, or spread it flat on a clean towel so the length does not stretch out on a hanger.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.

  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
