What we would tell you in the studio
- Crew neck and shoulders. A ribbed crew collar sits close to the base of the throat while the shoulder seams fall low onto the upper arm. Thin contrast lines run along those dropped seams to frame the broader horizontal blocks of colour.
- Sleeve and cuff gauge. The sleeves cut wide down the arm before gathering into neat ribbed cuffs. That ribbing holds the wrist in place so the excess knit bunches softly above the hand without slipping down over your fingers.
- Body and hemline. The body is knit with plenty of ease, dropping straight from the underarms to settle around the lower hip. Side edges fall clean without gathering, which lets the sweater hang clear of denim, trousers, or skirts beneath.
- Yarn feel and wash care. We blended cotton and acrylic yarns to give the sweater a soft surface that keeps its boxy structure over time. Hand wash the piece in cold water, press gently with a towel, and lay it flat to dry.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
