What we would tell you in the studio
- Striped midweight knit. Horizontal blocks of blue, apricot, and yellow run across the torso and sleeves. The cotton-blend yarn has enough body to hold its rectangular shape without feeling stiff on bare skin.
- Crew neck and drop shoulders. The plain ribbed collar sits neat against the neck. We dropped the shoulder seams low on the arm to give the chest extra ease, detailing the join with a thin contrast knit line.
- Straight loose hem. The lower edge is bound in ribbing that hangs open rather than gripping the body. It drops straight down from the underarm and lands around the hip line for easy layering over trousers.
- Cold wash care. Hand wash the knit in cold water or send it to a dry cleaner. Reshape the sweater while damp and dry it flat on a towel so the cotton-blend yarn does not stretch out of square.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
