What we would tell you in the studio

  • Lapel and collar. The wide lapel lays flat across the chest when worn open and closes securely across the front. It frames crew necks, collared shirts, and heavier turtleneck sweaters equally well.
  • Roomy longline cut. We gave this piece a generous body width and dropped armholes. The knit falls straight down past the hip without pulling or binding when worn over thick mid-layers.
  • Sleeve and pockets. Straight long sleeves finish with clean hems that slide easily over wrist cuffs. Two inset side pockets sit along the hip line to keep your hands warm and hold daily items.
  • Care and upkeep. Hand wash in cool water with a mild wool detergent, or use a gentle cycle inside a mesh bag. Press excess water out in a towel and dry flat on a rack.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
