What we would tell you in the studio
- Deep neck line. The front opens into a wide V that fastens with front buttons. It sits low enough to leave collars and base layers visible underneath, resting flat against the chest without bunching up when buttoned.
- Roomy cropped cut. We gave this piece extra width across the body and dropped the hem to a shorter length. The extra slack lets the knit hang straight down from the shoulders, creating an easy, slouchy drape through the torso.
- Black knit yarn. The solid black dye gives the stitch pattern a uniform texture with a smooth, soft hand against bare arms. It provides moderate warmth without heavy bulk, keeping the layer lightweight through changing temperatures.
- Washing and care. Hand wash in cold water with a gentle detergent to keep the knit shape intact. If you choose the machine, use a cold gentle cycle without bleach, then press out excess water and lay it flat to dry.

- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.

- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
